We know that a complete drug rehab program must include an effective psychological treatment that provides to the patient the necessary tools to make significant and long lasting behavioral changes. We help your teen overcome addiction with a therapeutic program that lasts from 30 days to 4 months (120 days). Our psychotherapy method is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which is considered one of the best and most effective therapies in drug rehabilitation cases for their proved permanent benefits in behavior change.

Having private sessions with a psychotherapist provides the patient with valuable, long-lasting tools to overcome addictive behavior, while promoting personal growth. During these sessions, the patient discovers parts of his/her personality and behavior that require adjustment or change in order to establish a healthier lifestyle free of drugs.

These are some of the benefits that individual therapy sessions offer:

Complete confidentiality and privacy.

The therapist gets more time to explore areas of conflict and find solutions to his/her patient’s particular problems.

Offers a secure environment to let go of painful or negative emotions.

The patient explores the underlying causes that led him/her to abuse substances.

Individual therapy is usually more intense and confrontational than other forms of therapy, this greatly helps the patient to recognize and work on aspects of his behavior that needs change.

Transforms and heals emotional and mental aspects of the patient’s personality.

Individual sessions are 100% personalized, for they tend to the patient’s unique therapy needs.

One-on-one psychotherapy promotes a swifter rehabilitation, while at the same time favors long-lasting behavior changes.

Our group sessions offer a great opportunity for patients to share with others the recovery process of drug rehab, while feeling the support and understanding from fellow residents that are going through this life-changing experience. A group setting also encourages the development of healthier interpersonal relationships, with a foundation of hope, respect (tolerance), confidentiality and support.

These are some of the benefits that group therapy sessions offer:

Meeting fellow residents in rehab gives a wider perspective on the patient’s own problems with substance abuse or addiction.

Listening and empathizing with people who share the road to recovery promotes a sense of purpose, belonging and enhances interpersonal skills.

Group therapy helps the patient understand that his/her problem can be viewed and handled in more assertive and positive ways.

Group members give emotional support, empathic understanding and encouragement.

Patients increase their sense of self-confidence by opening up and revealing their inner thoughts and feelings.

Members in group therapy learn to accept help, while at the same time offer support to others.

These therapy groups are a wonderful therapeutic tool that accelerates inner healing processes. Each experience at these groups works on key aspects of recovery; they are designed to meet each group’s specific needs and therapy goals.

Sunset Bay Academy employs a variety of therapeutic modalities – individual, group, family, talk, and experiential – to ensure the highest level of therapeutic traction possible with individual students and their families. Traditional talk therapy has its place, but at Sunset Bay, we know that that place is in a system of relationship-based therapies that engage our students in a variety of ways.

Family Therapy

Family therapy usually occurs over the phone, but parents are welcome to attend in person. Sunset Bay therapists schedule periodic family therapy. These sessions provide the opportunity for families to work through sensitive issues together and to support each other, prevent relapse, and plan for returning home after treatment.

Individual Therapy

Each student receives a minimum of ninety minutes of individual therapy each week. The ninety minutes can occur in a single session or several sessions as needed.

Group Therapy

Traditional group therapy is facilitated by master’s-level therapists.  Each of our students participates in a general group, which consists of all members of the house the student resides in. Additionally, each student is assigned to three or four other specialty groups that specifically address her individual therapeutic needs.

Creative Art Therapy
